Property Details

Description:

Rare Opportunity. 113 acre Seaside farm with good elevations. 76 acres highland (34 acres leased) 37 acres lowlands with over 3,000 feet of waterfront on Indiantown Creek and Ramshorn Bay. Gently sloping land with beautiful vistas of the seaside. Excellent hunting grounds for deer and turkey with perfect site for waterfowl impoundment. Tidal ocean access perfect for aquaculture or fish farming possibilities. Dock permit in progress for dock with boating water of 2 to 6 feet depending on the tides.

This land is situated on what was once the last area inhabited by any native Americans from the Eastern Shore.  While most other tribes were pushed north off of the peninsula, remnants of the Accomack remained.  They were given a reservation.  Over time, they changed their name to the Gingaskins.  As was the case with many native American tribes in the U.S., the European immigrants looked down upon them, and over time they split the reservation into parcels, which were eventually sold off.

The Seaside hosts many small inlets.  This property is valuable in that the Indiantown Creek was able to sustain a vibrant community of waterman in the late 1800’s through to the mid-1900’s.  Back in the day when many waterman worked with boats powered only by oars, often was the case that the lone waterman that owned a gas powered engine, would tow the many oar-powered boats out of the harbor and into the bay between the barrier islands and the mainland.  Once in the Bay, the waterman would work, clamming and oystering, only to be towed back in in the evening.  This property was the site of a wharf, on which the remnants of an old store can still be found.

For an owner today, this is extremely important.  Not just because of the rich history, but also, because the creek still has the potential to be used as a harbor for access to the Bays and the Atlantic Ocean.

If you are into hunting, this really is a hunter’s paradise. The current hunt club manager says it’s his best. Build your dream house here too with pristine views of the seaside and total privacy. First time offered for sale out of the family in 8 decades. Come explore!
